INKED

What if one day
When you rolled out of bed,
You looked in the mirror
And saw what you said.
Every inch of your body,
Covered in ink,
Bold, black words,
What would you think?
And each thing you had said
That proved untrue
Was written in red,
pointing a finger at you.
“I love you”
Would take on a new light
With slut, whore and jerk
Written just to the right.
Things you had whispered
Under your breath
Are there in the open
Blatant as death.
And what would you say
When you look in the eyes
Of someone whose name
Covers your thighs?
Things unkind,
Things untrue,
Line upon line that
Were spoken by you.
Gossip and rumors
That flew from your tongue,
Landed in ink,
Now see what you’ve done?
You can’t take them back,
They’re there to stay.
No matter how hard
You may wish them away.
